Located outside of Butte, MT at 5300 feet elevation, Mile High Cattle and Quarter Horses started in raising registered Simmental, Angus and SimAngus cattle. We have always dabbled in raising registered AQHA horses for use on the ranch and personal. The ranch has moved out of the registered cattle business and changed focus to providing quality horses. We still provide our local customers with homegrown grass-fed beef and free range eggs and chickens.
Mile High horses are used on the ranch to move cattle, trail riding, showing, and omoksee/rodeo events. Our horses are exposed to several aspects from dirt bikes, cattle, trailering, tractors, kids, vehicles, and wildlife. Our broodmare band is not a typical band, most of these mares are broke to ride and can be pulled from pasture at any time, tack up and go for a ride. We pride ourselves in having usable stock whether they are breeding or not.
We specialize in SMART, EASY TO TRAIN and colored horses, standing at stud is a Dunskin (buckskin dun) and a Gold Champagne Dun. Check out the Stallions page for more information on each. Why do we breed? We have always used horses to help on the ranch, ride in the mountains and compete in local events and shows. However, in 2017 we bred one of our best mares, Cinna Jane Doe, to a one of Lynns Quarter Horses last standing studs, Celebrity Concerto. The quality of horse that was produced from that pair was incredible, though only a sorrel he has earned his keep. He was the easiest horse to train, and has since been used for anything we could think of, and is continuing to be diversified in what he can do. This is the kind of horse that will stay behind and be with you when all the other horses run and play, he's the horse that will walk slow while you hold on to cross the ice, he's the horse that I have never batted an eye about putting kids on and going for a ride since he was 2! He is the one that we grab when we want a safe easy ride, or if we are going to the rodeo grounds to compete. We were so pleased with him that we bought a half sibling that is showing the same wonderful qualities. So we decided to find similar bred horses and build up our program. I like to call them "Snipper Music" horses. We stand a stud and several mares that stem from this great breeding. When you walk out in the field you know who has the breeding, they are always right there to see you, curious and conformationally correct. These horses have won a lot of points, money and has been used in all facets of the horse industry from rodeo, barrels, poles, roping, cutting, halter, pleasure, or jumping. You name it and there's been a prodigy that has likely done it and done it well. We can't wait to get these wonderful foals and horses out to the public again and see where our personal horses continue to take us. |
